Textiles. Handbags.
I studied Textile Design with Agnieszka Golda in 2005 at O’Halloran Hill TAFE and have used the design skills and the sewing skills my mother taught me from about the age of 8, to create my range of handbags.
The first step is to create the design and I am influenced mainly by Ancient Architecture but I also find myself drawn to designs that are reminiscent of Maori Art, probably because I spent the first 24 years of my life in New Zealand.
Once the design is exposed to a screen I print onto fabric. Generally I print on natural fibers, i.e.; Cottons, Canvas, and Dupion Silk but I have also printed on Satin, Velvet and Taffeta. After the printing is dry it has to be heat set in order for it to be colorfast.
Then I begin the process of matching my printed fabrics together with a variety of other exquisite fabrics to come up with a mix of texture, design and originality to create gorgeous bag.
Each of my designs is original and all of my bags are scotch guarded to help protect the fabric from everyday dirt and general wear.
Textiles have always been a major influence in my life and to be able to create beautiful bags gives me a great deal of pleasure. I hope you get as much pleasure out of owning one.
