Maureen’s hand-made bags, purses, scarves, wall art, lanterns and lampshades use vintage and re-purposed fabrics. Each piece is individually designed and thus utterly unique. They are inspired by her grandmother, a consummate needlewoman, who passed on a lifetime love of fabric, embroidery and sewing.
That love is backed up by an enormous fabric stash, including many vintage European designs. Maureen’s experience in illustration, lettering and design creates a contemporary look, blending the antique with the modern. Maureen’s work is based on respect for the hand-made and her practices of slow design, low wastage and sustainability.
Born and educated in South Australia, Maureen’s practice is heavily influenced by her research into mediaeval manuscripts and illustration. She has illustrated and designed over fifty books and book jackets for numerous Australian publishers and became a member of T‘Arts in 2024.
