The turned and shaped wooden bowls, boxes, platters and jewellery James produces challenge traditional designs and forms.
His startling 21st century shapes are inspired by four-legged animals; in particular hippos and pigs.
His pieces are determined by the size of the timber itself and the defects, insect holes and gum veins in it and highlights the fragile relationship it has with its natural environment. The harder and more twisted the piece, the faster his heart beats.
Through many years of experimentation and training James is able to combine traditional woodworking techniques with the latest 3D printing and CAD design to accentuate the natural beauty of the timbers. He joined the Collective in 2020.
