Textile Artist
Mary has been producing startling hand-loomed, hand-finished sweaters, jumpers, vests and other knitwear for over 40 years. Her clothing often features pop icons such as Patti Smith, Andy Warhol, David Bowie, Marilyn Monroe, Lou Reed, Debbie Harry and Bob Marley.
She completed a Master of Arts in Theatre at the University of Toronto, specialising in costume design, then learned spinning and weaving in Melbourne from a master tapestry maker. Mary also worked as wardrobe mistress for several theatre companies, including for the original Rocky Horror Show in Sydney.
Her knitwear has been featured in the New York Public Library’s exhibition of the Lou Reed Archive and has appeared in numerous exhibitions around Australia. It has previously been available at various galleries in Sydney as well as numerous outlets in New York and is now featured at the T’Arts Collective.
